With great effort during the last nearly 10 years for research and development of chess program for kindergarten, we created Babychess program specially suitable for young kindergarten as 3 – 4 years old basing on SKGR education methods. SKGR stands for Storytelling, Kinesthetic, Gaming, and Role-play.

Why is Babychess program so special for 3 – 4 years old kids?

Teaching chess to 3 – 4 years requires more specific educational approach other than the higher age. Babychess is the world-leading chess program for 3 – 4 years old and the unique program to develop  kids’ mindset and skillset, including thinking skills, observation, imagination, creation, language skills, and problem – solving skills.

OPEN LETTER FROM CEO OF CSC, MALCOLM PEIN

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to you on behalf of Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC), a UK based charity that provides tutors and chess sets for state elementary schools and inner city communities. We recently received a heart warming letter from Luong Nhat Linh at Vietnam Chessleader, asking for our assistance to promote chess in your country. We would love to help in any way that we can.

As with Vietnam Chessleader, our long term goal is to bring chess into every state school in our country. Prior to the charity’s formation in 2009, nine in ten state schools didn’t have a chess club. We now teach chess in over 280 schools across England and Wales, and have taught over 10,000 children how to play. We employ over 100 chess tutors, who teach weekly lessons following our standard curriculum. These chess lessons take place during class time, in order that each child in a year group can develop the transferable skills that chess engenders.

The benefits of incorporating chess into the curriculum have long been recognised. Between 1979 and 1983 the ‘Learning to Think Project’ in Venezuela demonstrated that boys and girls experienced a significant increase in IQ after four and a half months of systematic chess study. CSC are currently working on a similar project with the Institute of Education, who will test the academic results of Y5 (9-10 year old) pupils in 100 schools throughout England. 50 schools will receive weekly chess lessons from our tutors, and the other 50 will act as a control group. The existing national and international research leads us to believe that the children who learn chess will have increased attainment in mathematics, English and the sciences.

So why is chess so beneficial to a child’s education?

  • Their memory and concentration skills are improved.
  • Their problem solving ability is enhanced, and they learn how to make priorities in complex scenarios.
  • It improves their critical thinking and logical reasoning.
  • It improves their spatial awareness.
  • When children who aren’t good at schoolwork excel at chess, they gain confidence in other subjects. This is due to chess’s undisputed intellectual pedigree.

In turn, chess enhances children’s social development in the following ways:

  • They must take responsibility for their actions.
  • They learn how to win graciously and accept defeat.
  • It promotes imagination and creativity.
  • They learn that actions have consequences: if they calculate well, they get a good position, if they do not calculate well, then they don’t get a good position. This is analogous to studying for exams.
  • Chess is a toolkit against procrastination. Once a game has started, the player must commit to making decisions and see them through to a conclusion. We are currently lobbying for chess to be included in the UK’s national curriculum, and we urge you to do the same in Vietnam.

Yours sincerely,

Malcolm Pein
Chief Executive, Chess in Schools and Communities

OPEN LETTER FROM THE LEGEND OF CHESS CHAMPION, GARRY KASPAROV

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

When I retired from competitive chess in 2005 after over a decade at the top and having broken every record that I could including that of youngest ever World Champion and highest rated player of all time, I wanted very much to share with everyone what chess had given me to make me what I am today.

I am offering myself as a candidate for President of the FIDE (World) Chess Federation and hope to be elected at the FIDE Congress and World Chess Olympiad to be held in Tromso during the month of August, this year, 2014.

My dream is to have chess recognised and appreciated by beyond the sport it is today but what I am doing now is not new, l have for almost 10 years now campaigned for this and in my travels I am encouraged and recharged again and again when I come across organisations such as HCCKT., JSC which is already making what I believe in a reality in its own country Vietnam.

The Kasparov Chess Foundation has for its mission to bring the many educational benefits of chess to children throughout the United States by providing a complete chess curriculum and enrichment programs and In the last two years I have set-up first the Kasparov Chess Foundation Europe, then Kasparov Chess Foundation Africa, and most recently Kasparov Chess Foundation Asia-Pacific which is headquartered in Singapore.

I congratulate and endorse whole heartedly the work of HCCKT., JSC and laud its leadership led by Ms. Luong Minh Hue for so successfully demonstrating the benefits of chess to parents and kids in Vietnam.

We have a shared vision and appreciation of chess as an educational tool which helps develop both logical, creative and strategic thinking, and which builds analytical skills such as observation and problem-solving, presentation, and wish HCCKT., JSC continued success in spreading the “good news of chess” all over Vietnam.

Garry Kasparov
